Waterman’s Ball – Celebrating 25 years of protecting our oceans
Surfers Against Sewage is stoked to be a new beneficiary of the Surf Industry Manufacturers Association (SIMA) Environmental Fund. This unprecedented surf industry recognition of SAS campaigns reflects the growing impact and scale of the charity, and the strength of the current environmental initiatives protecting UK waves, oceans and beaches for everyone.
Over the past 24 years, the SIMA Environmental Fund has raised more than $6.5 million for organisations dedicated to protecting and preserving the world’s oceans, beaches and surf breaks. This effort is as important today as it was 25 years ago, and the SIMA Environmental Fund provides vital support for some of the globe’s most effective enviro-surf NGOs including Surfers Against Sewage, the Surfrider Foundation, Save The Waves and WildCoast.
The surf industry faces a common issue that threatens its success as a whole: ocean pollution. Poor water quality, marine litter, catchment runoff and irresponsible coastal development are negative trends that threaten the entire surf industry. Beaches closed due to sewage pollution & runoff, surf breaks destroyed by development, coastlines strewn with marine litter, climate change and ocean acidification all threaten the very fabric of surfing and the industry. It is incumbent upon every surf company to support this ongoing effort to ensure that our ocean playground remains healthy and accessible for everyone.
