Volunteer to help keep Britain’s beaches ‘Barefoot Friendly’
Surfers Against Sewage’s (SAS) beach clean crew is joining forces with Barefoot Wines again this summer for the 3rd instalment of our popular ‘Barefoot Friendly’ beach clean tour. We’ll be visiting 5 beaches across England and Wales between 28th July and 1st August to make sure they are as clean as possible for all to enjoy.
We are calling for volunteers to help us clean beaches at 5 locations around the UK, so if you value your beach as much as we do, please come along and join in. In 2009 we welcomed over 600 volunteers who helped us remove over 2 tonnes of litter from the 6 beaches. With your support we are aiming to make this year‘s tour more successful than ever, attracting even more supporters and removing even more unwanted litter from our nation’s beautiful beaches.
- 28th July, Cromer (By the pier), 3pm – 7pm
- 29th July, East Witterings (in front of the Surf Café), 3pm – 7pm
- 30th July, Isle of Wight, Compton Beach (Hanover Point car park), 3pm – 7pm
- 31st July, Pembrokeshire, Newgale Beach (Newgale House Car Park) 3pm- 7pm
- 1st August, Widemouth (Beach Car Park), 3pm – 7pm
Studies show that each year our tide lines are flooded with ever-increasing amounts of marine litter. Over 70% of this litter is plastic, which sadly causes the deaths of over a million marine mammals and seabirds each year.
So, join us at one of the destinations where you will be welcomed to the team for a fulfilling, fun and educational event.
The beach cleans will take two hours from 3pm – 5pm at each location. All beach cleaners will get a free Barefoot/SAS Volunteers t-shirt and, as a thank you for their time, there will be a free BBQ on the beach, washed down with samples of the Barefoot Wines, giving us all the chance to reflect on a job well done.
This is the third year that Barefoot has partnered with the SAS team and the beach cleaning campaign. Barefoot supports hundreds local and community events, charity fundraisers, music festivals and sporting events throughout the year and the SAS partnership is an integral part of the community project work.
We ask all volunteers to come dressed in appropriate clothing, including footwear, for the weather on the day of their beach clean. Make sure you protect yourself from the sun, rain or wind!
Please confirm that you are attending the beach clean by emailing Dom on [email protected] with the date & location that you’d like to attend or by calling 01872 555 953 (We need to make sure we have enough t-shirts, food and drink!)
