SAS To Attempt UK Beach Clean Record At Paddle Round The Pier

Surfers Against Sewage, in association with Barefoot Wine, will attempt to set the UK record for the biggest ever beach clean at this year’s Paddle Round The Pier on Saturday the 7th of July. SAS are calling for 500 participants from the local Brighton community and the Paddle Round The Pier visitors to join them on Brighton beach under the SAS flags on the Western side of Brighton Pier at 2pm on Saturday 7th July*. This unique attempt will see SAS volunteers each tasked with removing 10 items of marine litter, potentially removing 5000 items of harmful marine litter from Brighton’s coast through the event. Can you spare 15 minutes to be part of this record attempt? With up to 50,000 beach lovers enjoying Paddle Round The Pier this is a fantastic opportunity to help protect this hugely popular beach.

SAS Beach Clean Officer, Dom Ferris says: “The chance to set the UK record for the biggest ever beach clean is extremely exciting. The SAS Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project gives the UK’s coastal communities an opportunity to make a real and noticeable difference to the health of our precious coastline. With the help of 500 people at Brighton on the 7TH of July we’ll do that in style!”

SAS’s Brighton Beach Clean at Paddle Round The Pier will be the 11th event of the SAS Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project, which is running throughout the spring and summer at 14 beaches, rivers and canals across the UK with environmentalist and adventurer Ben Fogle.

Ben Fogle said: “I’m a huge lover of Britain’s coastline so when I was asked to be the ambassador for the Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project I jumped at the chance. We have such beautiful beaches here in the UK and during this campaign with Barefoot Wine and Surfers Against Sewage, I’ll be asking as many people as possible to come down to one of our events and keep their local beach ‘barefoot friendly’.”

To be a part of SAS’s attempt to set the UK record for the biggest single beach clean join us on Saturday the 7th of July under the Surfers Against Sewage flags on the beach on the Western side of the Pier at 2pm. Volunteers will receive all the safety equipment they require, Barefoot Beach Rescue Project T-shirts and also learn more about SAS’s year round environmental projects, ending the day with a celebratory glass of Barefoot Wine. * SAS will focus the record attempt at 2pm on Saturday 7^th July however we will register & mobilise volunteers throughout the day to contribute to the target of 500 individuals participating in the beach clean.
