2024 – Activism and Change
What a year 2024 was….
We took the issues of sewage pollution to the heart of government and then as part of the End Sewage Pollution coalition we made it into one of the key issues of the General Election.
It made sewage the first Environmental bill on the new government’s agenda, but we didn’t let it end there. Along with the rest of the End Sewage Pollution coalition we made sure they got the message, and then marched for clean water.
You all joined us in May for a huge paddle out protest, the biggest yet, inland and on the coast.
Our Protecting Wild Waters team helped communities across the nation achieve bathing water designation including Ludlow in Shropshire.
Our Safer Seas and River Service App continued to improve, and help keep users safe by alerting them to pollution incidents, you can download on Google and Apple
At the end of the year we launched our citizen science report The Ripple Effect you can read it in full by clicking on the image –
Our Plastic Free Schools team held incredible ocean schools for pupils on the beaches in the south west, they delivered inspiring PFS programmes in primary and high schools and rounded off the year with the biggest Pupil Power Assembly ever.
Our Plastic Free Communities teams continued to grow one of the largest networks of grass roots activists making change from within their local communities, real tangible change. From mass unwraps to education to holding protests and beach cleans. Find your local community by clicking on the picture.
Our Million Mile Clean team are our feet on the beaches and river banks cleaning up, monitoring and recording. It may seem like a hopeless task, but every plastic item removed from the ocean is one less piece that can harm wildlife or human health. Sign up for a clean HERE.
Then of course there was everything you have done for us through fundraising, you’ve beach cleaned, Dipped, donated to appeals, rowed around Britain, done bake sales, paddle boarded, swum the channel, you name it you have supported us, so thank you, Here are just a few highlights….
Thank you, and there has been so much more as well, but here is to 2025, and the reason why we are all fighting for plastic and sewage free seas…
