Expose the scale of pointless single-use plastic plaguing the UK. Share the most ridiculous #PointlessPlastic you find to help us highlight how much work still needs to be done.
What are we looking for?
Some single-use plastic is essential and can remove barriers for people with disabilities; for example, plastic straws and pre-prepared food can be vital for people who have difficulties swallowing or accessibility issues that make chopping and peeling difficult or impossible. So please do keep this in mind when you’re on the hunt for pointless plastic – and if you’re not sure, check our FAQs to find out more.
However, the vast majority of single-use plastic flooding our homes is totally pointless. Whilst most fruit, veg and other daily-consumed items can easily be sold loose and plastic-free, we’re still seeing outrageous amounts of plastic wrapping up nearly everything in our lives. Oranges in plastic netting? Plastic water bottles wrapped in plastic? Plastic wrapped in plastic wrapped in plastic? I’m sure you get the jist…!
So, see if you can spot all the items in your day-to-day life that could easily be un-wrapped from their pointless plastic and sold plastic-free instead. Snap a photo of each one, then share what you find with us – don’t forget to add #PointlessPlastic and tag us too!
