Wherever you live, tackle plastic pollution by joining the Million Mile Clean with Surfers Against Sewage. Receive free equipment to clean your local beach, park, river, mountain or street.

All you need to do is choose the date and time of each clean, register them each through our site and receive your equipment to get cleaning!

Make your cleans go even further by becoming a citizen scientist and collecting vital data on the brands and items found on your cleans.

Whether you live in a city, the countryside or by the coast, plastic will find its way into the ocean. Join the Million Mile Clean and stem the tide of plastic pollution.

Please note to allow up to two weeks for equipment requests to arrive from the date of registration.

How to do a Million Mile Clean:

• Select a date and location that suits you.
• You can do a private clean, or a bigger community event open to all and available to join on our map.
• Simply register your clean below, and we can provide free cleaning equipment for up to 30 people.
• We provide public liability insurance and guidance for your clean.
• Become a citizen scientist by tallying up the items and brands you find along the way to collect vital evidence for ending single use plastic.
• After your clean, submit your results to contribute to our next brand audit, and hold the polluters accountable!

Submitting your results:

Take part in our most successful citizen science project to date – the Brand Audit. Volunteers across the country are collecting vital evidence of the worst polluting companies during their Million Mile Cleans, allowing us to challenge Big Business and government legislation to do more to protect our wild spaces. Simply mark down all the items and brands you find, and submit them above with your results.

Our communities are taking plastic pollution head-on. This report captures just a snapshot of the amazing work happening in communities across the UK. From our continued collaboration with the Duke of Edinburgh volunteer programme to the efforts of organisations, Regional Reps, Plastic Free Communities, Plastic Free Schools and Ocean Network members, over 150,000 people took action to protect our environment – 2025 was a standout year.
