35th Anniversary Design Competition

Celebrating 35 years of Ocean Activism

For 35 years, we’ve stood up to profiteering polluters dumping sewage in our rivers and seas, and fought against the plastic tide choking the ocean. From the beachfronts to the front benches, we’ve had many wins alongside an amazing community of Ocean Activists and grassroots campaigners. Every single one played a part in shaping SAS into who we are today — an organisation leading the charge to protect the ocean and our wild waters.

This year, we’re turning 35! To mark this special occasion, as well as the 35th Anniversary Ball, we wanted to bring out a special edition design that celebrates our communities and our work.

Our merch has always been an iconic badge of defiance, a symbol of grassroots activism, and a rallying call for Ocean Activists everywhere. But this time, we’re doing something different. We’re handing the design over to you. We’re hosting a design competition to find the next iconic design, the one that perfectly captures the last 35 years of SAS campaigning and will inspire a new wave of action.

How it works

  1. Submit your design using the form below. Keep it bold, rebellious, and true to the SAS spirit.
  2. We shortlist the top entries. We’ll be going through all the submissions and curating a list of the top designs that stand out the most, have a timeless feel, and we think represent our heritage and will inspire future Ocean Activists.
  3. The public votes for the winning design.  The finalists will go head-to-head in a public vote on our social media channels, where our supporters, members and the public have the final say.
  4. One winner gets their design printed on our official anniversary merch.

The Prizes

Aside from bragging rights and your design brought to life on the official SAS 35th Anniversary T-shirt?

You’ll receive a free bundle of SAS merch featuring your winning design, TWO (2x) tickets to the 35th Anniversary Ball (5th July) for you and a friend of your choice, as well as a bunch of goodies from our Ocean Network partners.

What are we looking for?

We’re Ocean Activists. We’re powered and permanently inspired by communities all over the UK heading up epic grassroots actions. We’re status quo disrupters. We’re surfers. Swimmers. Paddlers. Noise-makers and wave-chasers. We’re an unstoppable force with a fire to spark.

Design Size: The design will most likely be printed up to 30x40cm in portrait. File Format: Save your design as a PNG with a transparent background. Resolution: Use 200dpi for sharp, high-quality prints. Colour: Work in RGB mode, this gives the best results for printing. Detail: Keep all lines and text thicker than 2mm so nothing gets lost in print. Effects: Avoid transparencies, fades, neon, or metallics. Boost your contrast and saturation for colours to pop on fabric. Rights: Only upload work you fully own or have permission to use.
