Climate Change Roundup from Bali

Some progress to halt climate change was made at the UN talks in Bali last weekend but the pressing issue of carbon reduction targets failed to make it the final text instead becoming a much weakened footnote.

Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) have been campaigning on the issue through the 'I-Count' coalition campaign led by Stop Climate Chaos (SCC). Ashok Sinha was the SCC representative in Bali and you can read his sum up of the talk's here http://www.icount.org.uk/news/news_stories/367.asp

Earlier in the week SAS campaigners had joined an estimated 7000 people in London for the National Climate March. The march was one of many to take place across the world during the mid point of the 2 week-long negotiations in Bali.

Despite horrific weather for the march, spirits were high and there were some inspirational speeches made by the likes of George Monbiot, Michael Meacher MP and Dr Caroline Lucas MEP.

With the Bali roadmap now established it is imperative that the issue of carbon reduction targets is strengthened prior to the final conclusion of these talks in Copenhagen in 2009 where a new Kyoto protocol will be established.
