SAS INVITED FOR A TOUR OF FORMER CHEMICAL WEAPONS SITE.

SAS have finally set foot on what was once the MOD's chemical weapons factory at RAF Portreath (Nancekuke).
The move by the RAF's Wing Commander Peter Stokes to invite SAS onto the site came after the MOD press office was warned of photos being released by the campaigners showing discharge pipes which allegedly were used to dicharge chemicals to sea.

Vicky Garner and James Hendy from SAS were more than happy to go along to RAF Portreath to meet Wing Commander Stokes and show him the photos of the outfall pipes which had been handed into SAS HQ anonymously.
After an hour-long meeting discussing the proposed multi million pound clean-up operation, James and Vicky were lucky enough to be shown around the site of the old Chemical weapons factory and the 5 dump sites which will be targeted as the centre of the clean-up operation.

SAS see this as a groundbreaking step forward in involving the local community. The surfers are the first independent environmental campaign organisation to have a tour of the site.

James Hendy of SAS said today:

"We were really encouraged by the meeting and it was great to finally see the site with our own eyes. We look forward to seeing the clean up strategy develop and hope that today's events are an indication of things to come".
