Saltburn Beach Clean

VOLUNTEERS are being sought to scour Saltburn's sands as part of the Marine Conservation Society's annual Adopt A Beach scheme.

A litter-pick and beach survey will take place on Saturday, January 26. The result of the survey will then be sent off to the Marine Conservation Society and Redcar and Cleveland Council for analysis.

Local surfers and other volunteers have taken part in regular clean-ups since 1999.

Participants this year are asked to wear warm clothes and strong shoes but litter picks, gloves and bags will be provided by the council.

The group will meet at 10am at the pier car park. The event is expected to run until noon.

A spokesman for the organisers, Saltburn 500 Club and Surfers Against Sewage, said: "Family participation is particularly good and we feel this is helping our youngsters develop pride in their environment and an understanding of this special coastline.

"The community spirit and enthusiasm is always most encouraging."
