SAS's Spring Beach Cleaning At Porthtowan

Arh, spring is in the air.  The sun has been doing it’s best and the beach is back on the list of places to go to.  However, since you were last there, winter storms, big waves and strong South Westerly winds have driven millions more pieces of marine litter onto our beaches.  Because of this we are organising a spring beach clean at Porthtowan on the 23rd of February, starting at 10.30 outside the Blue Bar.  Everyone is welcome, in fact everyone is needed.  This year has already seen several shipping disasters around the UK and our beach has been affect with many others.

As part of our continuing Return To Offender campaign you will get the chance to send all of the identifiable litter you find back where it came from, to the manufacturer, with our campaign message.  We will also be collecting data for part of the Marine Conservation Society’s Beachwatch survey.

As always, make sure you dress for the occasion.  I’d love to stress that sun block and a hat will be vital but I’d imagine that a good coat would be more prudent.  But check the weather on the run up to the 23rd, you never know!

We will be meeting outside the Blue Bar at 10.30am.  As always, we will provide information on the damage the litter causes to the environment and the animals that live in it.  We will provide gloves, bags, data collection sheets, litter collection and some well-earned refreshments for all the volunteers.  Please don’t leave this to somebody else, many hands make light work and we need many many hands!
