Funding of Surfers against Sewage

Surfers Against Sewage (SAS)is a not-for-profit organisation campaigning for clean and safe water on behalf of all recerational water users in the UK.

SAS receives no government funding and so generates income to support its campaign work by various means; through membership subscriptions, individual and corporate donations, profits from the sale of Surfers against Sewage merchandise, supporter fund-raising events and sponsorship packages.

SAS make every effort to ensure that sponsorship agreements are ethical and do not compromise the position of SAS or restrict its campaigning remit (which has meant turning down lucrative sponsorship deals on more than one occasion).

Surfers against Sewage is a limited company managed by a board of voluntary directors, responsible for safeguarding the aims, objectives and direction of the campaign and for overseeing the way in which they are achieved. Directors receive no remuneration and there are no payments to share holders.

Any surplus made is ploughed back into the campaign and used to finance the wide range of activities undertaken to further SAS' aims and objectives. These include formulating all campaign strategy, staging campaign actions in locations around the country and occasionally in Europe at the European Commission in Brussels or the European Parliament in Strasbourg, undertaking scientific research, carrying our educational talks and roadshows, providing assistance to journalists, SAS members, students or members of the public who require specialised information, publishing Pipeline News, running the SAS office and car, and administering the membership database to keep supporters informed about the latest campaigning activities.

Wherever possible costs are kept to a minimun and recycling used to reduce impact on the environment.
